A Tennis Giant Enters the Pickleball Market

Head is an Austria-born sports brand known worldwide for tennis and ski gear. It has the manufacturing expertise behind tennis rackets favored by top pros such as Djokovic and Zverev, and its quality and reliability are second to none.

With the rapid growth of the pickleball market, Head has also made a full-scale entry into this field. Leveraging the materials science and frame-design know-how cultivated in tennis rackets, it offers a high-quality paddle lineup. The Radical Pro is the model at its core.

Radical Pro Specs

The surface material uses carbon fiber, and the core uses polypropylene honeycomb. The weight is around 225 g, placing it in the mid-weight class. The paddle thickness is 16 mm, a control-focused design.

The shape is a slightly elongated type, balancing long reach and a large sweet spot. The grip uses Head's proprietary grip technology, well regarded in tennis rackets, and the comfort of the hold is worthy of special mention.

A Ball Feel Where Tennis Technique Shines

Control

The Radical Pro's greatest feature is its high control performance. The soft ball feel produced by the 16 mm polymer core, together with the stability of the carbon face, givesdinkand drop shots high precision. It's designed so the ball's sensation transmits easily to your hand, making it easy to hit the intended course.

Power

Because of the control-focused design, in pure power it yields a step to offensive-type paddles. That said, you can secure ample power with a swing that takes advantage of its mid-weight. For those with tennis experience, it's possible to make up for power with swing speed.

Spin

The carbon surface has a moderate texture and delivers medium spin performance. For players who used a lot of topspin in tennis, it has the performance to put that skill to use directly.

The Benefit for Those with Tennis Experience

Head's Radical Pro is a paddle with very high affinity for players moving from tennis to pickleball. The grip comfort shared with tennis rackets, the trust in a familiar brand, and a design philosophy where tennis technique shines all support a smooth transition.

The tennis "Radical" series is known as a balanced all-around model, and the pickleball-version Radical Pro is designed with the same philosophy. Its good offense-defense balance and versatility to handle any situation are its appeal.

Price and Overall Assessment

The price band is mid-to-high class, about the same as comparable models from pickleball-specialist brands. Given the brand strength and quality, the price is reasonable. Backed by the reassurance of a tennis brand and solid technical ability, the Radical Pro can be called an ideal paddle especially for a pickleball debut by those with tennis experience.
