Ben Johns (Benjamin Ellingham Johns, born March 18, 1999)is an American professional pickleball player from Gaithersburg, Maryland. Widely hailed as the greatest player in pickleball history, he has long held world No. 1 in men's singles. An intellectual athlete, he earned a degree in materials science and engineering from the University of Maryland.

My encounter with pickleball

In 2016, at age 17, he discovered pickleball during a family trip to Florida. As a child he had played tennis and table tennis, so the fundamentals of racket sports were already in place. Just a few years after taking up pickleball, he achieved astonishing growth to reach the top of the pro tour.

Overwhelming competitive record

In 2019 at the Tournament of Champions, he became the first men's pro to achieve a Triple Crown (gold in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles). In singles he set an unprecedented record of108 straight wins.

His greatest weapons are outstanding hand speed, precise dink control, and high-level situational judgment. His strategic play, drawing out opponents' mistakes rather than relying on power, has earned him the label "the chess player of pickleball."
