The Nest, one of the largest indoor pickleball venues in Metro Vancouver, opened in July 2026 in a 98,000-square-foot building next to Tsawwassen Mills. What stands out is not the size of the building but that its opening week was given over tothe BC provincial championship on July 22-26, which drew more than 1,000 players at once. New courts built on a mall's surplus parking lot made a tournament their opening statement. With courts now going into shopping malls and office buildings in Japan as well, this "fill it with a tournament first" approach is not somebody else's problem.
| Tournaments | Schedule | Scale |
|---|---|---|
| BC Provincial Championship | July 22-26 | More than 1,000 players |
| Pickleball Tour Canada | August 19-23 | Nationwide |
| Next event | September 10-13 | Tournament size |
The venue was originally planned with 14 permanent courts, expandable to 28 by laying temporary court surfacing for tournaments. The floor slope failed to meet the volleyball federation's standard, so the design was switched midway to pickleball only, and the result was29 permanent courts, a layout built squarely around running tournaments. The ceiling stands about 9 meters (30 feet), and with air conditioning and competition lighting the building can run matches for a 1,000-player field at the same time. Our earlier report on the opening itselfgave 14 permanent courts, a figure from the planning stage; the building that actually opened had grown into something far better suited to tournaments. It was that extra capacity that made opening with the provincial championship possible.
Courts are starting to go into commercial complexes in Japan too. In Inagi, the courts at Frespo Wakabadai went from a limited run to permanent on September 1,
同じ設計はフィリピンでも見られ、courts in the provincial city of Iloilo opened with an 80-player tournament and won recognition in one stroke。
