ピックルボール日本連盟が後援する「UTR Pickleball Japan Tour 2026 Vol.7 powered by PJ」が、2026年7月25日に横浜市戸塚区のKPI PARKで開かれた。テニスで定評のあるUTRレーティング制度が、2025年からピックルボール日本ツアーに組み込まれ、2026年は月に一度のペースで回を重ねている。連盟の告知には募集人員80名、会場「KPI PARK 4面」と書かれていた。7月27日時点で優勝者や順位表は公表されていない。ここでは結果の話をせず、この大会が参加者に何を配っているのか、そしてそれが何を変えるのかを読む。
The notice carried two numbers: 80 places and four courts
The federation’s event page lists the bare frame: date and time (July 25, 2026, 9:00-18:00), the venue “KPI PARK 4 courts, 1588-1 Shinano-cho, Totsuka-ku, Yokohama, Kanagawa 244-0801, Japan,” 80 places and an entry deadline of July 19. The organizer is “BearDown, UTR’s representative in Japan,” with the Pickleball Japan Federation as supporter and JOOLA JAPAN and ZIPAIR listed as sponsors. Entry is limited to “PJ individual members,” the ball is specified as the “JOOLA HC-40,” and equipment as “UPA/USPA approved paddles.”
On events, the notice offers only a split into “beginner-intermediate and advanced in each category”; neither a list of events nor an entry fee appears. Applications are taken on the UTR Sports event page. What an entrant can see, then, comes down to the date, the place, the number of places, and a choice between beginner-intermediate and advanced.On top of that coarse either-or sits a number carried out to the decimal point— that is how this event is built.
The rating reached Japan in 2025
The federation’s notice is explicit about where the tour came from: “With UTR entering the pickleball market in the United States in earnest and expanding its scale, from 2025 we will at last begin a UTR-rated pickleball tour in Japan as well.” UTR pickleball in Japan is not a venture launched in 2026 but a continuing one in its second year.
On the rating itself, the federation explains that “UTR uses its own algorithm to rate a player’s ability on a scale from 0 to 16,” and says entrants “can use the rating obtained from match results to compare themselves with players around the world.” The notice for the fourth stop in May went further, saying the number serves as a benchmark when judging college recruiting, eligibility for international events and qualifying opportunities for the USAP Golden Ticket. Someone who has only played a grassroots event at home ends up with a coordinate on the yardstick used for overseas selection. That is what is being handed out.
Same venue, yet the court count and the entry cap move from stop to stop

KPI Inc., which runs the venue, announced that the pickleball courts at KPI PARK opened with 10 courts on November 16, 2024. Against that, the court counts in the notices swing between 14, four and 10. No reason is given. Still, only the seventh stop in July is set out in the small format of 80 places and four courts, while the eighth the following month goes back to 200 places and 10 courts.Less a monthly event than a standing operation cut to whatever space the venue has freeis how the scheduling reads.

この大会をめぐって公になっている言葉は、いまのところ関係団体の発表に限られている。連盟は告知文でUTR導入の理由を米国市場の拡大に置き、参加資格をPJ個人会員に絞ることで、レーティングの付与先を登録済みプレーヤーに閉じている。主催のBearDownはUTRの日本代表として大会運営を担い、申込動線をUTR Sportsのイベントページに一本化している。会場側のKPI株式会社は、コート開設のリリースで、ピックルボールを世界で急速に人気を集めている競技と位置づけ、気軽にも本格的にも楽しめる設備を整えたと述べている。
参加者側の感想、当日の入り具合、試合結果——参加者が得た実感を示す発表は出ていない。SNS上の反応も、公式アカウントのエントリー受付告知が確認できるにとどまる。7月25日の結果に関する公表物は、7月27日時点で見当たらない。つまり、この制度が参加者にとって実質的に機能しているかどうかは、現在のところ外部からは判断できない状態のまま、制度は回を重ねている。
The number tells most on beginner-intermediate players
The players most affected by this event are not the advanced ones. At the top the field is small and who is strong is broadly shared by word of mouth. The ones in difficulty are the beginner-intermediate group. Self-declared “intermediate” means something different in every community, and there is no way to check whether the intermediate at the next gym is as strong as your own. The flow of tennis players into pickleball shows up in the statistics too (72.5% of tennis players interested, and the 36x headroom in a 330,000-player market), and the more someone arrives with a tennis player’s racket instincts intact, the harder they find it to put their own level into words.
Into that comes a number worked out purely from sanctioned match results. Play a few matches at an 80-player event and one coordinate that is not self-reported is left behind.For the people making the draw, it also removes the need to cut the beginner-intermediate bracket by feel— a practical gain. The fewer entries a regional event draws, the more that tells. Separate work is under way to design a route for amateurs up to the national stage (High-School-Soccer-Style "PB1 CUP" Launches, Bringing Amateurs to a National Stage Too), and connecting a number to it would make qualifying far easier to design.
日本のプレーヤーは、二つの数値を抱えることになった
やっかいなのは、ピックルボール業界で物差しが一つに決まっていない点だ。競技側で広く使われてきたDUPRは、公式の説明によれば新規登録者をNR（Not Rated）から始め、2.000から8.000のスケールで評価する。シングルスとダブルスで別々の数値を持ち、クラブや大会の試合は自己申告の試合より強く反映されると説明されている。レクリエーションの試合まで拾う設計で、日常的にプレーする人ほど数値が動く。
UTR, for its part, brings the calculation method it built in tennis into pickleball and, by the federation’s explanation, uses a scale from 0 to 16. With two systems running in parallel that differ in both range and in which matches they count, a player in Japan piles up records in separate accounts depending on which events they enter. In Asia, countries are starting to build on DUPR (A Win in Hanoi Now Counts the Same as One in LA — DUPR Lays a Global Standard in Vietnam), and with a federation-supported tour in Japan adopting UTR, the yardstick has split inside Asia as well. The cost of that lack of a single standard is being carried right now by individual players.
The sponsor list allows another reading. JOOLA JAPAN and ZIPAIR appear in the same way from the second stop through the seventh. With the same two companies attached to an 80-player stop and a 200-player stop alike, it is hard to see them as buying exposure per event. It is more natural to read them as putting a price on the series repeating across the year.

The venue sits between Totsuka and Yokohama on the Tokaido Line, within a day trip of a wide stretch of the Tokyo area. The pickleball courts are new, opened in November 2024. Since the entry fee is not in the notice, the amount has to be checked on the application page.
やることは二つに絞れる
横浜の第7戦は、80名という小さな器の大会だった。この回に出た人は、順位表ではなく、自分の実力を他人と共通の目盛りで語れる材料を一つ持ち帰っている。日本のアマチュアが数値を持つ環境は、2025年に始まって2年目に入り、月に一度前後の頻度で回るところまで来た。
読者がいま動くなら、やることは二つに絞れる。第8戦に出るつもりがあるなら、8月9日の締切より前にPJ個人会員の登録を済ませ、手持ちのパドルがUPA・USPAの公認リストに入っているかを確かめておく。出る予定がなくても、自分が主戦場にしている大会がUTRとDUPRのどちらに結果を送っているかは調べておいたほうがいい。二つの数値のうち、どちらを育てるべき側かを先に決めておかないと、どちらも中途半端な試合数のまま残る。各大会が参加者に配る数値は、同じピックルボールの試合でも、その後の解釈が大きく分かれるのだ。
