On July 10, 2026, Mizuno announced a full entry into the pickleball equipment market. Built around three paddles, with dedicated shoes and bags alongside them, the line goes on sale in Japan from August, targeting 100 million yen in sales in its first year. It is rare in Japan for a full-line sports maker to come into this sport with a dedicated range, and another set of equipment choices is no small thing. The company is alreadyconverting tennis courts in prefectural parks for pickleball to grow the playing population, so this equipment launch is the second half of a strategy that runs places to play and gear to play with as a pair. Here is what players and operators in Japan can take from the move.
Three paddles, plus dedicated shoes and bags
The paddles coming in are the ACROSTRIKE LX, ACROSPEED SX and CARIBER. All three carry USA PICKLEBALL ASSOCIATION approval and are designed for use in sanctioned play. They went on sale in the United States first, from April 2026, so Japan gets them four months later.
Beyond paddles, Mizuno's first pickleball-specific shoe, the WAVE STRIKE, arrives at the same time, along with a tour backpack, a tote bag and other carry items. Offering a full kit under one brand rather than single products shows an intent to settle in and take the market. When the line launched in the US it hada wider range of five paddle models, so in Japan the company has narrowed to its main models to build shelf space.
How golf and tennis know-how was carried across
At the core of the entry is technology carried over from existing businesses. The top ACROSTRIKE LX carries a mechanism called FAST TRACK, which lets you move weights on both sides of the paddle with a dedicated wrench and tune swing weight to taste. Mizuno describes this asan application of the adjustable mechanisms developed for golf clubs. The idea of adjusting head weight and balance in a club has been brought straight over to a paddle.
The mid-range ACROSPEED SX uses an ENERGY CELL structure based on the high-rebound material MIZUNO ENERZY XP, aiming for rebound and a wide sweet spot, while the entry-level CARIBER puts ease of use first with a slim grip and a rebound-retention mechanism. The WAVE STRIKE shoe uses MIZUNO WAVE, built up through tennis shoe development. It is a lineup only a maker with long histories in both racket sports and golf could assemble.
Prices run from 16,500 to 39,600 yen, squarely alongside the brands already here
Lay the prices out and the target players separate clearly.
| Model | Intended player | Price (incl. tax) |
|---|---|---|
| ACROSTRIKE LX | Power-minded intermediate to advanced players | 39,600 yen |
| ACROSPEED SX | Intermediate to advanced players who want control | 31,900 yen |
| CARIBER | Entry to intermediate | 16,500 yen |
| WAVE STRIKE (shoes) | All levels | 16,500 yen |
At 39,600 yen for the top model and 16,500 yen for the entry model, the range lands almost exactly where Yonex sits after bringing a roughly 31,900-yen paddle to Japan in July 2024. Even among overseas specialists, high-performance models commonly run past 35,000 yen, so Mizuno chose to compete on function and brand strength on the same ground as established names rather than force its way in on price. Putting the CARIBER in the middle of the 10,000-yen range also shows a plan to win the first paddle a beginner buys.
A domestic market expanding fast behind the move
Mizuno is moving now because the playing population is growing. Its announcement estimates that the number of players in Japan will grow about sevenfold year on year in 2026, and counts 42 venues nationwide where the game can be played as of June 2026. Market research putsthe domestic playing population at about 330,000, with a potential pool of about 11.89 million, while awareness sits at just 13.1%. It is a textbook early-stage market, little known but quick to spread once people try it, and a phase in which the equipment maker that secures shelf space first has the advantage.
In October 2025 the company signed a promotion partner agreement with the Japan Pickleball Association, linking the creation of chances to play with product sales in a single line. Positioning the sport as a lifelong, three-generation activity and being explicit that places to play come before gear to sell sets this apart from a plain equipment launch.
Three points for players and operators in Japan
Here is what the entry means on the ground, in three points, from the view of players and venue operators.
First,Easier demos and repairsis the first. Paddles from overseas specialists sell mostly online, leaving buyers to spend tens of thousands of yen without ever holding one. With a full-line maker that has nationwide distribution and a repair network in the mix, players get a route to try a paddle in store and ask for help when one breaks. Lowering the barrier to choosing gear feeds straight into keeping beginners in the sport.
Second,A new way to choose: adjustable weightis the second. A paddle like FAST TRACK, where one frame can change its weight balance, lets players find their own setup without buying replacement after replacement. In a sport where swing preferences shift as you improve, adjustability is a realistic way to hold down the cost of switching. For operators, a paddle that suits a wide range of players in one model is also easy to handle in rentals and lessons.
Third,The confidence a brand entry brings to the marketis the third. Yonex and tennis brands are widening their ranges in Japan and abroad alongside Mizuno, and the presence of familiar names is itself a signal that this is not a passing fad. In negotiations over venue investment or sponsorship, the fact that established brands are betting on the sport works in its favor.
