Selkirk of the US put a pickleball-specific shoe, the CourtStrike Pro 3.0, on sale in July 2026. It costs $128 (about 20,000 yen at 157 yen to the dollar), carries a six-month warranty on the outsole, and is pitched as lighter and more breathable than the model before it. In an equipment market where paddles have been the story, dedicated shoes are standing up as a category of their own. For Japanese makers such as Mizuno and Asics, which have spent years refining lateral stability and abrasion resistance in court sports, that is not a distant development.
About 370g, four-way grip, six-month outsole warranty
According to a review published on July 27, 2026 by the US pickleball outlet The Dink Pickleball, the CourtStrike Pro 3.0 sells on weight and breathability. A lightweight engineered mesh upper is paired with a die-cut insole board that improves airflow, plus an abrasion-resistant lining to cut scuffing on direction changes. A TPU shank in the midsole supplies rebound and torsional rigidity, and the outsole uses a four-way grip made for pickleball. Selkirk’s product information gives 13.0 ounces (about 370g) in a men’s size 9 and a six-month outsole warranty. Colors include Canyon Clay and Zephyr Blue. The review is based on about 10 hours of wear and presents no quantified comparison data.

Borrow a tennis shoe and the same spot wears away on every stop
Most players have until now made do with tennis shoes or all-court models. But pickleball, with its small court and its run of short direction changes and hard stops, loads the foot differently from tennis. What gets tested is lateral bracing and durability at the toe under braking. Selkirk designing a dedicated outsole grip and attaching a six-month warranty to the very part that wears is aimed at the complaint heard on court that borrowed tennis shoes wear through fast. Making the upper lightweight mesh for airflow comes from the same premise of long sessions on a small court, and the starting point differs from a tennis shoe.
The widening of equipment lines is not confined to shoes. Six Zero hasrolled out 15 apparel items at once, and brands are shifting their weight from being “paddle-only companies” to companies that outfit the whole sport. A shoe whose outsole grinds down under hard stops is closer to a consumable than to a tool used for years like a paddle. The replacement cycle is easy to read, which makes it an area where margins can be expected.
The wide-foot last data at Mizuno and Asics is a differentiator beyond price
The $128, roughly 20,000 yen band overlaps with mid- and upper-tier tennis and running shoes. The lateral stability, abrasion resistance and breathability Mizuno and Asics have refined can be repackaged straight into a dedicated shoe. Of the Japanese makers, Mizuno does sell a dedicated shoe in the US, but it has yet to register on courts at home. What is open is less the market itself than awareness and distribution.
Fit is another weapon. Most overseas brands design around European and American foot widths, and the complaint that they do not suit the wider, higher-instep Japanese foot has been made for years in running and tennis. Mizuno and Asics hold last data for Japanese feet and a history of width options. In pickleball, where many participants are middle-aged or older and demands for fit and stability run high, “a dedicated shoe that fits Japanese feet” is an angle that works. As with the Hachiojitaster festival running as many as 24 courtsandand the US chain Picklr’s arrival in Japan, courts and chances to try the game keep increasing, and replacement demand from tennis shoes is steadily building.
Will Japanese makers hand that replacement demand to overseas brands?
If dedicated shoes settle in as a category, shelf space for shoes and apparel will spread through specialty stores and e-commerce sections. Whether Japanese makers can build a counter on the balance of price and durability while overseas brands lead at around $128 will decide who holds the initiative in the domestic market. Players still using tennis shoes should start by comparing a dedicated shoe against what they own for grip under braking and for lateral wobble. Buying from Japan adds exchange rates, shipping and duties, so the price on a shelf here will not stop at $128. Equipment is moving from a contest fought on paddles alone to one that reaches down to the feet.
