Facility information
THE PICKLE BANG THEORY is an indoor dedicated pickleball facility in Yawata, Ichikawa, a 1-minute walk from JR Motoyawata Station. Created by crossminton world champion Akihiko Nishimura, it opened in April 2026. It has three pro-spec hard courts.
Being indoors, it isn't affected by weather or wind, and the hard courts give a stable bounce. On top of its location right by the station, it uses an unstaffed check-in system, so it can be used from early morning to late at night.
Hours are 6:00 to 23:00, on an hourly rental (court rental) basis with unstaffed check-in. Fees, reservation methods, and the day-of entry procedure may change, so check the official information before using it.
It's located at 2-16-6 Yawata, Ichikawa, Chiba. Check each facility's official information for detailed directions and the latest reservation methods and fees.
Because it is indoor-only, you can play in a stable environment year-round, unaffected by rain, extreme heat, or cold. Being easy to visit to fit your daily rhythm, such as after work or early morning, is also an advantage of indoor facilities.
Many indoor-only courts are reservation-based hourly rentals. If there are paddle and ball rentals, you can start empty-handed, so for your first visit, check whether equipment loans are available for peace of mind.
The dink (a soft, dropping shot) in the non-volley zone (kitchen) near the net is the key to tactics. Being mindful of control rather than power shots makes it easier to seize the initiative in a rally.
Going to the same facility regularly deepens coordination with opponents and partners and speeds up improvement. Because it is a doubles-centered sport, making friends is also part of the fun.
Chiba had until now centered on borrowing space at tennis schools and fitness clubs and on trial sessions, but with the arrival of this facility in Ichikawa, it has moved up to become a prefecture with one of the leading indoor-only courts near Tokyo. Motoyawata has good access from the city center too, making it an easy base to attend for beginners building their fundamentals.
