Facility information
Kumamoto Prefectural Football Center (COSMOS) is a Japan Football Association-accredited facility in Kashima, with two dedicated outdoor pickleball courts on its grounds. Trial sessions are also held. Note that pickleball events and availability may change, so check the official site and other sources for the latest information.
On the dedicated outdoor courts, you can play in the well-equipped setting of a soccer facility. It's easy to start through events and trial sessions.
The focus is on events such as trial sessions. Check the facility's announcements for how to use it and the schedule.
The facility is located at 1533-2 Shimorokka, Kashima-machi, Kamimashiki-gun, Kumamoto. Check each facility's official information for detailed directions and the latest reservation methods and fees.
Outdoor courts let you play freely in an open environment. At facilities with night lighting, use after sunset is also possible.
Because it is outdoors, having a hat, sunglasses, and a drink as measures against strong sunlight and wind makes it comfortable. Because availability may change in rainy weather, check in advance.
The dink (a soft, dropping shot) in the non-volley zone (kitchen) near the net is the key to tactics. Being mindful of control rather than power shots makes it easier to seize the initiative in a rally.
Going to the same court regularly deepens coordination with opponents and partners and speeds up improvement. Because it is a doubles-centered sport, making friends is also part of the fun.
In Kyushu, large dedicated courts appeared one after another in 2025. COSMOS in Kumamoto is one of them, serving as a base where you can try pickleball in the prefecture.
