Facility information
Rusty Takatsuki Tennis School is an air-conditioned indoor tennis school in Takatsuki that runs a program with dedicated pickleball lines marked on its indoor hard courts. It's a member of the Japan Pickleball Association.
On the indoor hard courts, you can play regardless of the weather. There are beginner and intermediate classes (each capped at 8 people), and free equipment rentals and trial lessons are also available.
Check the official site for class schedules, fees, and how to book a trial lesson.
The facility is located at 2-9-1 Nishikanmuri, Takatsuki, Osaka. For detailed directions and the latest reservation methods and fees, see the official information (Official website).
Indoors, you can play in a stable environment all year round, free from rain, extreme heat, and cold.
Reservations are mostly on an hourly, booking-required basis. If paddle and ball rentals are available, you can start empty-handed, so it's reassuring to check whether rentals are offered before your first visit.
The dink (a soft, dropping shot) in the non-volley zone (kitchen) near the net is the key to tactics. Being mindful of control rather than power shots makes it easier to seize the initiative in a rally.
Going to the same court regularly deepens coordination with opponents and partners and speeds up improvement. Because it is a doubles-centered sport, making friends is also part of the fun.
In the Takatsuki area of northern Osaka too, schools where you can take up pickleball indoors are now in place.
