Facility information
Rusutsu Resort Pickleball Courts are outdoor-only courts inside Rusutsu Resort in Rusutsu. They are PJF (Pickleball Japan Federation)-official dedicated courts in Hokkaido that opened in July 2025, with eight courts and spectator seating across roughly 2,000 square meters.
With spacious outdoor courts and spectator seating, they're well suited to tournaments and exchange events too. Since they can't be used during the snowy season, they operate seasonally, roughly July to October.
The usage fee is roughly 3,000 yen per court per hour. Because the operating period and reservation methods change from year to year, check the official information before visiting.
It's located at Aza-Izumikawa 13, Rusutsu, Abuta-gun, Hokkaido. For detailed directions and the latest reservation methods and fees, see the official information (Official website).
Outdoor courts let you play freely in an open environment. At facilities with night lighting, use after sunset is also possible.
Because it is outdoors, having a hat, sunglasses, and a drink as measures against strong sunlight and wind makes it comfortable. Because availability may change in rainy weather, check in advance.
The dink (a soft, dropping shot) in the non-volley zone (kitchen) near the net is the key to tactics. Being mindful of control rather than power shots makes it easier to seize the initiative in a rally.
Going to the same court regularly deepens coordination with opponents and partners and speeds up improvement. Because it is a doubles-centered sport, making friends is also part of the fun.
Hokkaido has a long snowy season, and outdoor-only courts are a new development with the arrival of Rusutsu in 2025. Being inside a resort, they can be enjoyed alongside sightseeing and an overnight stay.
