Reception opens at 8:35 and play runs from 9:00 to 12:00, three hours, in the sub-arena of Osaka Municipal Central Gymnasium. Each company fields a team of four to eight, and firms face each other in a round-robin or match format for points. People new to pickleball are welcome, so a company that cannot pull together experienced players can still enter as long as four people sign up.

Entry is 30,000 yen per team (tax included). Applying during September brings an early rate of 20,000 yen (tax included). Entries are taken through a dedicated site (picklecup2026.xparks.jp). Setting it on a holiday morning picks a window where employees can gather without clashing with ordinary work.

Rond runs the event, Mizuno brings the grassroots base

The two co-hosts have split the roles. Rond leads the planning and runs the day. Based in Minami-Aoyama, the company works under the banner of creating chemical reactions out of encounters, operating the Pickle Parks pickleball venues, area co-creation facilities and open innovation communities. The name Pickle Parks Cup comes from that in-house venue brand.

Mizuno joins from the position of health promotion through sport and delivering value to communities and companies. It is spreading pickleball at 52 facilities nationwide, making it both an equipment maker and an operator with places to play. Mizuno entered the domestic pickleball business in earnest in August 2026, a move reported asa domestic entry that brings golf-derived technology to paddles. This Kansai company-versus-company event counts as one of the concrete corporate measures it has rolled out since. In Kansai, tennis courts at the prefecturally run Fukakita Ryokuchi park are also being converted into pickleball courts, andan effort to grow the player base in a prefectural parkruns alongside it, layering on an entry point aimed at corporate players.

A design that combines "Kansai" with "company versus company"

What sets this event apart is that it limits the region to Kansai and makes the unit of entry a company rather than an individual or a club. In a company-versus-company format, the process of forming a team inside the firm becomes a reason for departments to mix, and standing on the same court as other firms on the day creates connections outside it. Rond's head explains that watching people of different languages, ages and genders relax into each other over pickleball gave him a sense that sport connects people across barriers.

The company-versus-company format has spread outward from Tokyo. Mitsui Fudosan launched the Corporate Pickleball & BIZ CUP in central Tokyo, and the Japan Pickleball Federation has held a national corporate championship. As an example of a corporate tournament moving outside Tokyo, there isSapporo, the first edition held in the regions, and this Osaka event adds Kansai to that line.

A setup aimed at workplace wellness and outside networking at once

What the organizers put front and center are two things: corporate health management and business networking. Pickleball needs little running and uses light equipment. Even employees who have been away from exercise can get a rally going in a short time, so people of differing fitness and age can share the same match. That wide entry point connects with corporate health programs aimed at building exercise habits.

The other aim, business networking, is placed as an answer to how hard it is to build new relationships in a big city. Bring clients and peers onto a court and you meet at a different distance than across a business-card exchange. Companies fielding teams is happening in other sports too, and forms such asa corporate league in which several companies own teams, where the whole company gets involved, are increasing in Japan. A one-off tournament is a light first step that lets a company test that entry point in a single day.

What general affairs and HR should look at before signing up

From the adopting side, this tournament scores on how easy the cost and the effort are to read. Entry is 20,000 to 30,000 yen per team, four players are enough, and the commitment is three morning hours on a public holiday. Without the burden of designing an in-house event from scratch, a health measure and a networking measure run at once. The scale also fits comfortably inside a benefits budget.

On the other hand, a single one-off entry that ends there does little. It is worth checking in advance whether somewhere exists to continue. Rond, which runs the event, has its own facilities, Pickle Parks, and Mizuno holds 52 sites nationwide. Whether the day leads into an in-house circle or regular bookings is what changes the return on a health program. Because the physical intensity is light, employees with existing conditions are easy to include, but the flip side is a modest training load, and that is worth weighing when deciding where the event sits.

What the beginners-welcome entry rule signals

Spelling out that no experience is required makes clear this is not a tournament to gather the strongest companies but one to widen the base. The cap of 16 companies also looks set to keep the event within reach of the organizers rather than to raise the level of play. Cutting the early-bird rate off at the end of September is aimed at drawing entries in the first month and securing time to prepare.

For Mizuno, an equipment maker, it is also a place where a batch of employees grips a paddle for the first time. When people move as a company, later equipment purchases and facility use can follow. A design that turns promotion and business in the same place shows in the decision to co-host.

A test of whether company-versus-company play takes root in Kansai

Corporate pickleball programs tend to start with taster sessions and one-off tournaments, with the machinery for continuity arriving later. This Osaka tournament, too, will amount to publicity if it ends after one edition. Sixteen companies will gather, and the question is how many of them move on to regular bookings or an in-house circle afterward. Whether company-versus-company play settles in Kansai, new ground for it, will be measured by what happens after November 3.

With Mizuno and Rond, two companies that own venues, working together, the follow-on capacity behind the entry point is in place. The rest depends on whether the companies that take part can turn a one-day event into a workplace habit.

FAQ

Q.
