Nick Kyrgios joins as an investor too

Indispensable in discussing The Picklr is Nick Kyrgios's investor participation, revealed in March 2026. Kyrgios, a former world top-10 tennis player, has shown strong interest in pickleball since retiring, and his investment in The Picklr became a major talking point in the industry as a sign of his seriousness.

For details,an article on Nick Kyrgios's Picklr investmentcovers it as well, but with an international star like Kyrgios involved, The Picklr's brand value rises further. In the Japan rollout too, this star power will be a powerful marketing weapon.

Synergy with Japan's pickleball scene

In Japan, the pickleball population has surged since around 2023-2024, and demand for court facilities is rising, centered on major metropolitan areas. But it has to be said that the sheer number of dedicated facilities is still insufficient. Many people play by borrowing tennis or badminton courts, and there has long been a strong desire for "a proper facility dedicated solely to pickleball."

The Picklr's entry into Japan directly answers that demand. The plan of 20 facilities in five years is presumably conceived with distributed rollout to major cities in mind. The image is of first building out a facility network centered on major metropolitan areas such as Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, and Fukuoka.

In Tokyo,the Tokyo Tower pickleball courtが2025年7月に常設化され、ランドマーク的な施設展開も進んでいる。The Picklrのフランチャイズ施設が加わることで、東京のピックルボールインフラはさらに充実することが期待される。

The franchise model rollout -- what will operations in Japan look like?

The Picklr has rolled out on a franchise model in the US too. In Japan, likewise, local partners are expected to operate facilities as franchisees.

The strength of the franchise model is that you can use the headquarters' know-how, brand power, and operating systems as they are. For Japanese operators who "want to open a pickleball facility," a franchise agreement with The Picklr will be a strong option.

Looking at similar success cases as a sports franchise, there are several points where adaptability to the Japanese market will be tested. Membership pricing, facility scale, coaching quality -- how these are localized looks likely to decide the success of the Japan rollout.

Importing a coaching culture -- Japan gets "an environment where you can be taught" too

One of The Picklr's features is professional coaching services. At The Picklr in the US, group and private lessons by certified coaches are held regularly, creating an environment where beginners can learn to play from scratch.

If a similar coaching program rolls out in Japan, it should contribute greatly to drawing in the segment that "wants to start pickleball." The added value of "coaching and community" at a sports facility is also a good fit for Japan's sports culture.

The Picklr's strategy seen in the context of its Asia rollout

The Picklr's entry into Japan is not a solo move but part of a larger trend of pickleball market expansion across Asia.PPA Tour Asia is holding tournaments in Vietnam and Japan (such asthe PPA Asia Sansan Tokyo Open), and player populations are surging across Asian countries.

The spread of such competition and tournaments and the development of facility infrastructure are two wheels of the same cart. An environment where someone who watches a match and thinks "I want to try that" can play at a good facility right nearby -- The Picklr's Japan rollout is exactly the move that shoulders that "infrastructure side."
